Before opening Studio Lin, Alex Lin laid the foundation for his own design practice by collaborating with some of the field’s greatest minds. After receiving an MFA in graphic design from Yale University, Alex spent six years at the design firm 2x4.
His work has been featured and awarded by leading design publications such as Wallpaper, ID Magazine, Print Magazine, Metropolis, Azure, Tank, Surface, Architectural Record, Span, Victionary and exhibited at the Museum of Modern art and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.
In 2005 Alex was named an Art Director’s Club Young Gun, in 2006 he was in STEP magazine’s field guide for emerging designers, and in 2009 he was honored as an Avant Guardian by Surface Magazine. In 2007 his Mies face artwork created at 2x4 became part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art.
Consultation
An opportunity to fully understand clients’ needs and desires, beginning with a meeting to:
- Identify vision and goals
- Discuss working methods/communication
- Review budget
- Review overall schedule
The outcome of the consultation is the creation of a project brief and contract.
Schematic Design
Using the project brief as a guide, sketches are made to explore different possibilities. Subsequent deliverables include:
- Presentation of the schematic design with options
- Revision of schematic design
- Final schematic design
Design Development
This phase consists of further development and refinement of the approved final schematic design. At the end of this phase, we deliver:
- Final document with production-ready artwork
Production
The studio gathers quotes from its network of printers, programmers and animators, and oversees all production to ensure the outcome meets the highest standard.
